Mike Kelly Committed No Crime. You Wouldn’t Know it in Winnipeg.

Former Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike Kelly, who was fired from his job after being falsely accused of assault, has had every charge against him dropped and every charge completely expunged from the record. In other words, he was neither officially charged nor was he convicted of any wrongdoing whatsoever in the State of Pennsylvania or anywhere else.

Kelly’s court case was completed Monday, but it’s now Wednesday and you wouldn’t know about it in Winnipeg unless you read www.rivercitysportsblog.com or listen to The Great Canadian Talk Show on 92.9 KICK FM.

It’s truly sad how so many people in Winnipeg will work extra hard to destroy somebody, but when it turns out that person did nothing wrong, those people head for the hills.

One might suspect that the reason the truth is being ignored is because Kelly is gone, living in Pennsylvania and no longer part of Winnipeg. Once again, that’s not true. Fact is, Mike Kelly’s a Winnippeger who will be spending a lot more time here in the ‘Peg this summer. Who knows? You might even hear him on radio one day soon.

Uh, Kelly didn’t need the media’s help to destroy his career. He did that all by himself with his on anf off field incompetence and threatrics, completely aside from the criminal charges.

You didn’t cite a either, Scott, so perhaps the media you are lambasting don’t want to report information that can’t be confirmed from an authoritative source.

Truly sad? Destroying someone? Well he destroyed a proud football team and nearly ticked off everyone that called themselves a bomber fan. I personally don’t have anything against Coach Kelly, but Mr. Taylor bring all the facts to the side. He was a terrible coach… deal with it. And considering his PR demeanor to the media and to the fans, I highly doubt radio stations will want that type of personality on their airwaves.

The assault thing was like a bingo for the Bombers. Made it easier to fire him with that on the table. Whether he did it or not doesn’t matter. He had to go, regardless.
The people of Winnipeg didn’t destroy him, he destroyed himself. Remember coming in, this was his dream! Would never know it, the way he conducted himself.
As far as I can see, he was in no way prepared for that kind of responsibility. Didn’t have the right skill set, I guess! Now he’s where he should be. Not coaching football!

Kelly is not a Winnipeger first and foremost. He was not born here, has only lived here while he was the O coordinator in the 80s and coaching, and I use that term loosely, last year. The fact that his daughter was born here is of little significance regarding him personally.

What he was accused of and apparently aquitted of is not the point. The point is he embarrassed not only the Blue Bombers but the entire CFL during his tenure as our “coach”. He alienated the fans, the media except I guess Taylor, opposing teams and the image that he has destroyed will take years to rebuild.

The fact he was charged with certain offenses and those charges subsequently dropped or whatever, does not mean he did not commit the offense, merely no one chose to press charges.

Enough already – let the bump go. I for one don’t want to see him in MY city again.
